Amongst a sea of apathy, New Zealanders are reclaiming a stake in local democracy [Stuff, 08/09/19]

Reaching a near-consensus on anything these days seems difficult. Except, it seems, when it comes to expressing a lack faith in our local politicians.

Stuff’s Your Place survey asked: “Do you trust your local councillors to act on the issues that matter most to you?” A resounding 83.8 per cent said no.

The Your Place survey also found an angst about development, with four out of 10 Kiwis feeling like their population was growing too quickly in their area.
