Upper Clutha Decides 2019

Come and meet candidates, old and new, standing as Councillors in the Wanaka Ward. Also hear from mayoral and community board candidates.

This event is aimed at helping you find out what our local Wanaka Ward candidates think about one of the key issues being debated in our community, the proposed expansion of Wanaka Airport.

Topics covered by the candidates are likely to include their approach to growth, infrastructure issues, tourism and the debate around the airport itself. We’ll be looking for questions from you and discussion which is relevant to retirees, business owners, ratepayers, parents, employees – in fact, all of us. This will be a panel discussion run by an independent MC who is familiar with local issues.

You’ll have the opportunity to submit your own questions, and then we’ll all vote – the most popular will be presented at the event. There should be time for questions from the floor.

This event is for anyone who thinks the proposed expansion of Wanaka Airport is an important issue for Wanaka, it is for those of you who agree or disagree with the proposals and those who are still unsure. Bring a friend or neighbour and let’s raise community engagement in the election process, so that in turn we can ensure our representatives are working hard for us in office.

Mayoral candidates cannot attend this event in person, due to a competing event in Queenstown, but we are inviting them to appear via video, and we’ll put the same questions to each of them.

Council candidates and Wanaka Stakeholders Group core members will be available after the event to discuss their views on the latest information about the airport proposals.
