Overtourism is defined as “the impact of tourism on a destination, or parts thereof, that excessively influences perceived quality of life of citizens and/or quality of visitors’ experiences in a negative way”. And it has likely hit the shores of Aotearoa.

Ian Yoeman, Associate Professor and Head of the Tourism Management Group at Victoria University Wellington, considers the pitfalls of overtourism, and strategies which can be deployed.
