Does Machu Picchu Really Need an Airport?

Historians, archaeologists, and members of the tourism industry are criticizing the decision to build a new airport at the entrance to the Sacred Valley, claiming it will put the local culture and historic ruins at major risk.

But not everyone is worried…

“I don’t believe it will boost over-tourism with the negative consequences that are much feared,” says José Koechlin von Stein, the founder of Inkaterra, which has four hotels in the area.
