Meeting on Bristol Airport’s expansion plans to go ahead – but public asked to watch online [Bristol Live,17/03/20]

A vote to confirm the refusal of Bristol Airport’s expansion will still go ahead, but members of the public have been asked not to attend.

Many flights to and from Bristol Airport have been cancelled.

The local authority is exploring the use of technology to ensure its other meetings can also go ahead.

North Somerset Council’s planning and regulatory committee refused the expansion plans when it met last month.

Councillors said the environmental and societal impacts outweighed the economic benefits of the expansion, which would see passenger numbers grow to 12 million by 2020.
